6 Day TK Rongai Climb With 5 Day Camping Safari to Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti

Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Once you have completed customs formalities and collected your luggage, please exit the airport building and then look out for our driver who should be wearing a black Team Kilimanjaro t-shirt and carrying a placard with your name on it, who will be waiting under a shelter for you at the meeting point outside. Our driver will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha for your overnight stay.

Your chief guide will come to your hotel for your pre-climb briefing at approximately 1800, during which he will introduce himself, brief you on everything that will be happening throughout the duration of the climb, check any kit that you may have concerns over, issue any kit hire items that have been requested and he will also deal with any final pre-climb administration and answer any questions you may have.


Day 2: Your mountain guide and supporting crew will collect you from your hotel at approximately 0730 to transfer you to Kilimanjaro's Naro Moru Gate to start your 6 day TK Rongai β€˜Superlite Series’ climb.

Day 7: Should the climb be completed in 6 days, we will collect you from Marangu Gate when you finish your climb and we will return you to your hotel in Arusha for your overnight stay.

Hot Springs

Day 8: This is probably the best place to swim. Emanating from within the earth, the geo-thermally warmed water is constantly renewed and is therefore very fresh and clear and clean. It’s a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours with family, or to relax before or after a climb.

The distance from Arusha to the hot springs is 69 km and the journey normally takes around 1 hour 45, so one should allow 5-6 hours for this excursion.

Optional: If requested, your safari guide will come to your hotel at approximately 1800, during which he will introduce himself, brief you on everything that will be happening during the safari, and answer any questions you may have.


Day 9: Collected from your hotel at 0730 and transferred to Tarangire for a game drive. Late afternoon transfer to Manyara Highlands above Mto wa Mbu for overnight at Migombani Camp.

Day 10: After a leisurely breakfast at your campsite, morning transfer to the Crater, descent into Ngorongoro Crater for all-day game drive with lunch in the crater in hopes of witnessing the Big 5. In Africa, the Big Five is made up of the lion, rhinoceros, leopards, elephant and Cape buffalo. All of these animals are viewable within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, including the crater and are protected thanks to the wildlife conservation efforts of Tanzania.

Late afternoon transfer to Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge on the Crater rim for your overnight stay.

Day 11: Morning transfer to central Serengeti with visit to the Maasai boma, Olduvai Gorge and Shifting sands en route to Seronera region.

Afternoon transfer to Nyani Public campsite for your first night stay.

Day 12: Full day game drives in Central Serengeti in search of the region's permanent predator population, where we expect to find a very dense concentration of game. Late afternoon return to Nyani Public Campsite for your overnight stay.

Day 13: (Optional) - Early morning transfer to launch site for hot air balloon ride in aerial pursuit of the Great Migration. 

Or, you will have morning game drives in Seronera Region before your afternoon flight to Arusha.

Afternoon transfer to Seronera airstrip in time for the 1645 Coastal Aviation departure arriving into Arusha Airport at 1820. Met by driver and transferred to The Outpost Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 14: You’ll need to check-out of your hotel by late morning, however, if you wish to wander into town for the day, you may leave your bags with reception and may continue to use the hotel’s facilities. Please let us know if you need a guide to accompany you or if you wish to organise any special activities today.

Please be ready to be collected for your airport transfer at least 3 hours before, to ensure sufficient time to check-in for your flight PW 423 departing ARK at 1415.

When considering an ascent of Kilimanjaro we frequently receive enquiries about what climbers should expect in terms of temperatures and precipitation. While this information is of course useful, it tells only a very small part of the story in terms of informing a climber how they should prepare.


Tipping is a universal custom on Kilimanjaro and on safari and has always constituted a significant proportion of a guide or porter’s salary. It is alleged that there are even companies operating locally that do not pay their staff any salaries and that these workers rely exclusively on tips.
