These three siblings – the children of Team Kilimanjaro’s founders – summitted Kilimanjaro at the ages of 5, 7 and 9. Bran became the youngest person ever to summit Kilimanjaro by doing so. Arien, now 13 is training to win back her mother’s record which Rebecca held for 4 years as the fastest woman to climb Kilimanjaro. Both Linus and Bran are already training to beat the men’s record when they are older.
Most mornings the three children race each other the 167 vertical metres the summit of an ancient hill fort. The aerial footage in this video is shot with DJI’s Phantom 4 drone. This drone is incredibly easy to fly and will return to where it took off if it flies out of range of signal or if the battery gets low.
The drone is also very portable and can be carried in a special backpack which most airlines’ policies allow to be carried as hand luggage.
Sadly, in 2015 the Tanzanian National Park authority made the surprising decision to prohibit the use of drones within Kilimanjaro National Park so this drone currently may not be used on Kilimanjaro unless someone in your booking group doesn’t read this information, carries it discretely onto Kilimanjaro without informing us, and then uses it high on the mountain only when there are no park officials around. If you need an extra porter to carry special gear for you on Kilimanjaro, we can arrange this for USD 10 a day.
